๐Our eighth graders enjoyed a wonderful day of teaching and learning outside the classroom at Ocmulgee Mounds. They experienced Georgia Studies and geography firsthand through exploration and discovery.

๐Today in Dr. Scott's seventh grade Healthcare Science class, students got hands-on with DNA. During the mini-lesson, Dr. Scott reviewed DNA structure and demonstrated how to build a model using Twizzlers for the sugar-phosphate backbone, marshmallows for the nitrogen bases, and toothpicks for hydrogen bonds. ๐ก
๐Students then worked in small groups to construct their own DNA models, label key parts, and share their creation with the class. Hands-on learning never looked so sweet! ๐ก

Principal Choice had the pleasure of catching up with Cameron today for a Warrior Walk (Check & Connect)! ๐
Cameron is an exceptional student who shines in the classroom and on the football field. He has good attendance, excellent grades, and a great attitude. When asked about his academic success, Cameron shared what he has learned over his middle school years:
โ
Don't procrastinate when you have projects, start early so you can finish by the due date.
โ
Pay attention in class, you can't learn when you're distracted.
โ
Don't lie to your parents and say you don't have homework when you do....study by doing your homework as practice.
Thanks for being the brand Cameron, we're so proud of you. Scholars, get ready, you may be next for a Warrior Walk!

๐ฃ Reminder for Warrior Families: Monday, September 22, will be an Asynchronous Learning Day. Students will not attend in-person classes. We hope everyone enjoys the long weekend and returns ready for a great week ahead! ๐๐

Some assessments are used for learning and some are of learning. Mr. Izquierdo's eighth graders are working collaboratively in small groups to gauge their understanding before taking the individual assessment next week.

Ms. Williams and Mrs. Young keep math engaging with a variety of instructional strategies in their eighth grade classroom!
โ๏ธStudents first sort equations into categoriesโone solution, no solution, or infinitely many solutions.
โ๏ธNext, in their small groups, they apply math to the real world by using money to solve and interpret their solutions.
โ๏ธTo wrap it up, students collaborate at the whiteboards in pairs, working together to practice solving word problems.

Mr. Dillon keeps his sixth graders actively engaged with a multi-faceted lesson designed to strengthen their math skills and confidence. His instruction weaves together reciprocal teaching, modeling, fluency reviews, guided and independent practice, and collaborative pair work at the whiteboards.
Students are not only learning math but they're thinking critically, working together, and building enduring understanding!

Eighth graders are wrapping up the fourth phase of their book study project!
๐Phase 1: Students analyzed song lyrics and chose a "lead single" that connects to the novel.
๐Phase 2: Students built a full soundtrack of five songs tied to characters, struggles, and events.
๐Phase 3: They wrote music-blogger style reviews linking quotes from the text to song lyrics.
๐Phase 4: Students are creating presentations (digital slideshow, physical display, or video pitch) to share their soundtracks.
Ms. Franklin conferences with each student to provide them with personalized feedback and help them strengthen their ideas every step of the way.
